The Aghora Pashupatha Homam, also known as Yagna, is conducted in reverence of Agora, one of the five fundamental aspects of Lord Shiva. This remarkable ritual is undertaken to conquer the effects of the evil eye, negative influences, malevolent intentions, and malefic spirits. Lord Shiva, with his five distinct facets—Sadyojata, Vamadeva, Aghora, Tatpurusha, and Eshana—is revered in this manner. The countenance of Aghora Rudhra, Shiva’s second face, presides over the realm of elemental beings.
This sacred ceremony is performed to mitigate the impact of malevolent spirits, release the grip of unsettled spirits (pretha dosha), dissolve malicious enchantments, and alleviate the effects of the evil eye. The procedure involves addressing six internal adversaries—kama (desire), krodha (anger), lobha (greed), moha (attachment), mada (arrogance), and matsarya (envy)—as well as external challenges in one’s life, business, and family. These adversities manifest through harmful practices like Marana Prayoga, Tantra Prayoga, Visha Choorna Prayoga, Mohana, Vidveshana, Kritrima, Abhichara, and Vsheekarana Prayoga. The homa serves as a shield, offering protection against these threats and challenges.
